Zygmunt Hertz dies at Maisons-Laffitte. An annual Zygmunt Hertz Literary Prize is instituted, together with an annual Juliusz Mieroszewski Prize for Journalism. The Institute’s publications include Etyka i poetyka (Ethics and Poetics) by Stanisław Barańczak, Ogród nauk (The Garden of Science) by Czesław Miłosz, and Porcja wolności – październik 1956 (A Portion of Freedom – October 1956) by M. Tarniewski (Jakub Karpiński).
